Cancer Refunds

As a young mom diagnosed with breast cancer, I chose the most aggressive treatments available to me--bilateral mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. My treatments were happily coming to an end but I could tell that there was something weighing on Katie's mind. She found the courage to ask me if the cancer might come back. I reassured her as I thought was appropriate for a third grader. I basically told her that it would not come back because we had done everything we could to fight it. To which she responded, "that's good, because if it did you should get your money back!" That memory makes me smile to this day--almost 10 years without having to ask for a refund!!!
